Not the best game ever, but still massively excellent. May 28, 2010 Mr. Robert J. Little (The Butterfield Kareoke Bar!) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly, I only got this game a few weeks ago. And it's pretty cool (as an understatement).
Single Player: this was the slight disappointment for me. COD4 on Veteran was genuinely very difficult; WAW similarly, was actually a real challenge, even on Hardened. This is really, REALLY easy. It's not a surprise, I suppose; after the success of the first game, IW wanted to make this even more accessible- and in doing this, they've got rid of the difficult element that we had in missions like 'One Shot, One Kill' in 4. Seriously, I completed about half the missions on Veteran without dying once, and I wasn't even paying much attention. Although if you suck, then this won't bother you.
Special Ops: this is genuinely a good idea. Admittedly, there are one or two you can't do single player (the tragedies of not being terribly social) but they're really fun, and you'll probably find yourself playing some of them again and again, trying to do it in the quickest time. With 2 people, it's even more fun, as you can talk tactics and have fun taking it far too seriously.
Multiplayer: Again, first class. All the PC gamers have been kicking off about this, but they're just picky. My one slight gripe is that it's basically been set up for assault rifles; sub-machine guns are all much more underpowered than they were in COD4, which is a shame, because I liked using the MP5 inappropriately. Similarly, LMGs are much less widely used, with the AUG HBAR the only one you can ever practically use for close combat. However, they've sort of fixed this by giving you a much wider range of shotguns, which are amazing fun. The perks system, which lots of people are annoyed about, is probably more balanced than in 4, in my opinion. There's no Juggernaut, and most of the good ones (Stopping Power, Steady Aim, Bling, Sleight of Hand, Ninja) are unlocked quite early on.
The customising of the guns is also much more varied than 4 or WAW (silenced shotguns anyone?) but again, it's not so imbalanced it's noticable. True, noobtubers are perpetual, but they're less powerful than previously, so I suppose, again, it's sort of fixed. And with Prestiges, you can literally spend months on the multiplayer before you could legitimately say you've 'won', as 10th prestige does take a while to get to...
Overall, this is a great game. For the price it is, it's amazing. Unless you're pathologically allergic to fun, you really should get it.
Worth the wait November 10, 2009 Mr. Steven Williamson 67 out of 89 found this review helpful
I picked this up last night at midnight from the place i work (game) and have been playing it ever since , it is outstanding. Graphically it is on another level to nearly all games out at that monent. It looks great on an HD tv but m sure it would look excellent on a normal tv. The single player took nearly six hours for me to complete which is quite short, it does not disapoint being all action from start to finish in a very nice variety of locations. There is a point in the story which is simply put the gaming moment of this year for me ( i know that makes no sense but when you arrive at it you will know). The only flaw is there is no Co-op story mode but that is made fine by the actual Spec-ops mode which is co-op and has a variety of missions, which are so good to play with a friend. I tried firing up the multiplayer earlier on this morning and already theres a load of people playing it and with good reason its great also i would say its better than in the original because of all the small difference that have been made, they add up to something big i feel.
Overall if you own a 360 you must buy this and experience the best game of the year.
Modern Gaming! December 13, 2009 Kaiser Biber (U.K.) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A great sequel to Modern Warfare, the Campaign (single player mode) has an exciting storyline, more weapons (predator drones, heat sensitive scopes), more support from colleagues in the field of play and a great balance in terms of out and out destruction and hide and seek combat. The controversial part of the game that everyone is that in one of the early scenes you play an undercover operative that has infiltrated a terrorist group and are party to killing civilians and police in an airport. The important part of that last sentence is GAME, its not real, but if you feel that you might become a terrorist or want to start killing civilians after playing this then its probably not for you and you might need some therapy. The enjoyment I got from the single player mode was immense, like the previous version you switch between a US Ranger and a British SAS commando. Coming back to complete the game on higher difficulties adds to the longevity. The multi-player part of the game is awesome, the only bugs are trying to join a game can sometimes be difficult and that the game doesn't let you conduct an Xbox party when playing Xbox live. This is frustrating when you have a group of friends trying to sort out a strategy and some 8 year old is raping your ears with all kinds of spurious dirge. There is an all new feature as well in the game called Special Ops. In this mode you are given a set task to complete (such as killing 40 enemies while protecting a base) with 3 levels of difficulty which are rewarded with stars.
To sum it up, there nothing particularly different here - its pretty much been done before in COD4 but what they do have is a very solid game that's incredibly enjoyable and well worth the purchase.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 December 8, 2009 J. Uddin (Shortlands, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great graphics, very fluid movement just like MW1. Campaign feels a little all over the place, but still very good. Good variety of maps on multiplayer. Additional section of the game called Special Ops, this is a nice addition and brings further length to your purchase.
Overall, very impressed with the game, would recommend to anyone. :)
Forget single player then it is one of THE best games ever July 29, 2010 Br Cottrell (London) 1p is just practice for xbox live.
The number of levels and the amount of fun mean you could end up playing this game for days and days and days. I would place it in my top 3 of all games I have played over the past 20 or so years. A true classic.
I liek the level up system, progression of weapons and tactical decisions.
