5 out of 5 stars Timeless Classic Comedy   April 4, 2001

The old ones are always the best. This is a film that you can watch over and over again, and it never ceases to entertain. The film itself is set in the early 1920s during the Monte Carlo rally, and Tony Curtis' superb acting makes this a absolute classic. A must to buy!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful classic film -Where's the DVD?   April 30, 2007

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore are only two of the galaxy of stars who all have great parts in this classic 60's comedy about the famous car rally across Europe. Tony Curtis, Terry Thomas, Eric Sykes, Susan Hampshire and Gert Frobel all have dirty tricks up their sleeves to be first across the line as they face the hazards of the frozen North, the Alps etc. "Pete n' Dud" appear as two maniac Army officers in what is my favourite of all their performances. This film is the real story of the 60's cartoon serial "The Wacky Races" and you will recognise the Dick Dastardly character immediately as Terry Thomas (and Eric Sykes, the sneaky butler who translates brilliantly as "Mutley, The Snickering Hound" in "The Wacky Races"!) The media coverage of the race is a wonderful parody of sports presentation which would make a film in itself.

Why this film is lost to film lovers is a mystery. Perhaps the American presence wasn't big enough with so much European talent around. But, Hey! Tony Curtis gets the girl in the end so what's the problem?! It's just a great giggle from beginning to end and the pace of the film is constantly propelled by the excitement of the race itself. This is a film which the whole family will love.

Excellent move, Kids loved it as I did when I was a kid. They just don't make em like they used to, clean good fun I would like to get it on DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!   June 8, 2009

This film is full to busting with wonderful performances and you couldn't find a finer example of perfect, inoffensive family entertainment. The gags are far too numerous to mention, but "Ah, reindeer!" is one of our family's favourite lines, for no other reason than the way it is delivered! Come on, WHERE'S THE DVD????
